Company Overview
Platte River Associates, Inc. (PRA) was incorporated in the State of Colorado, USA in February 1985. PRA currently has a staff made up of geoscientists, computer programmers and administrators with corporate headquarters in Boulder, CO. It has an office in Houston for sales and service and a network of associates based in Europe, North Africa, Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia and South America that provide training, consulting and support services worldwide.
PRA has been developing geologic modelling software since 1985 that allows explorationists to efficiently and cost-effectively identify and evaluate hydrocarbon potential. Today PRA's BasinMod products are an integrated family of tools designed to analyze almost all aspects of a petroleum system in 1-D, 2-D, and 2.5-D (Flowpath modelling). In recent years, they have added probabilistic modelling to their Petroleum Systems Suite with the addition of BasinMod Risk, designed to risk both plays and prospects. While the focus of Platte River's software in the past has been on exploration, i.e. maturity, source rocks and timing of generation and expulsion, new features and new products are expanding the utility of PRA software into risk analysis, exploitation and production. PRA's most recent development is a process and workflow for play and play fairway risk analysis using its new PetroAnalyst software which combines the technology and techniques of petroleum systems analysis to better quantify play and play fairway risk analysis. It is designed to guide an exploration team through play fairway analysis in a consistent manner so that plays can be ranked on an equal basis. Too often risk is assessed in a subjective way that allows bias to skew the results. PRA is currently involved in the implementation of these techniques within a major national oil company.
Building on the foundation of its software, PRA offers a range of services and applies its products to solve problems and achieve client objectives. In addition to training and support for its software, PRA consulting services ranging from simple maturity models to long term, multi-dimensional petroleum systems and play fairway risk analysis. Many of PRA's geologic staff and associates came from major oil companies and have wide experience in the in dealing with exploration problems. PRA's geologic staff has over 120 man years of modelling experience and have been involved in numerous service/consulting studies in basins throughout the world.
