BasinView

Mapping and Integration

Product Overview

BasinView fully integrates the BasinMod family of petroleum systems modelling software.

BasinView® Interface:

  • Launches all PRA products.
  • Displays wells and 2-D lines on maps.
  • Facilitates data editing.
  • Manages project parameters, units, and stratigraphy for consistency.
  • Offers a variety of map projections.

Product Features

  • Fully integrates other Platte River products, including BasinMod® 1-D, BasinMod® 2-D, BasinFlow®, BasinMod Risk®, and BasinMod® 3-D.
  • Batch processes 1-D calculations.
  • Displays calculated output as surfaces in map view. Clip to display only data within a polygon.
  • Input cultural data such as coastlines and lease boundaries using the ESRI ShapeFile format.
  • Calculates and displays surfaces for multiple, user-defined time steps.
  • Displays calculated surfaces from different sources in combination.
  • Imports ASCII grid files from EarthVision® (Dynamic Graphics); exports ASCII property scatter data (.pdat) files to EarthVision.
  • Easily correct crossing horizons and insert new horizons in model.
  • Create user-specified surfaces by clicking points on a map and assigning values.

Data Requirements for Mapping:

  • Minimum of three wells; no maximum.
  • Formation top or thickness grids output from Z-MAP®, CPS-3, Petrosys, ARC/INFO, or Surfer®.
  • Any data in ASCII xyz format.
  • Missing or incomplete data may be supplemented with user-created surfaces for a wide range of values, such as thickness, missing thickness, porosity, permeability, and TOC.

Calculations:

  • Choose calculation methods for compaction, pressure, thermal history, fluid flow (including permeability), kinetics, and maturity.
  • Create surfaces of all values from 1-D calculations.
  • Model angular unconformities.
  • Create organofacies to be used in calculations.
  • Display sediment accumulation and erosion rates for specific time intervals.
  • Apply gridding options for calculated surfaces with minimal user intervention.
  • Modify gridding parameters to enhance local features or directional trends.
  • Create pseudo wells by clicking points on a map.

Output:

  • Display all data as surfaces in map view.
  • Display calculated surfaces through time using a slider bar.
  • Draw a line on the map and view its cross-section with XSC Viewer.
  • View input data and calculated results in three dimensions using triangulated surfaces (3-D Model Viewer).
  • Calculated output can be fed directly into BasinFlow and/or BasinMod 3-D to run further simulations.
