BasinMod 2-D

Product Overview

Model the entire petroleum system from source rock to trap.

BasinMod 2-D features true 2-D pressure with generation pressure, time-transgressive events, 3-phase fluid flow, predictive faulting, basement heat flow, radiogenic heat flux, rifting heat flow, and salt movement.

Product Features

Model building:

  • Import data including BasinMod 1-D files, digitized or scanned cross sections, Landmark and GeoQuest project files.
  • Create and edit cross sections using powerful drawing tools.
  • Easily handle complex stratigraphy, including complicated unconformities.
  • Create facies changes by assigning different lithologies to points on the cross section or by drawing facies overlays.
  • Mix pure lithologies from the on-line lithology library to create new lithologies.
  • Enter lithologies as depositional environments, seismic facies, A-B/C sequence stratigraphic analysis or lithofacies.
  • Graphically display and edit cross section in age.
  • Graphically vary salt thickness history through time.

Calculations:

  • Calculation engine combines backstripping and forward modelling.
  • Calculate values for all cells in a calculation grid.
  • The variation of pressure and fluids in adjacent cells drives migration.
  • Define a uniform calculation grid; add divisions in areas of interest. The program also adds divisions where higher resolution is required, such as along faults and time transgressive events.
  • Uses finite difference method for thermal and fluid flow calculations.
  • Graphically define, edit, and vary surface temperature and heat flow through time.
  • Model facies changes with gradational changes in rock property values rather than abrupt changes at facies boundaries.
  • Control faulting or model faults predictively.
  • Model changes in salt geometry through time.

Output:

  • Display model values, such as temperature, pressure, maturity, generation, and saturation in cross section either as continuous color or value windows at any point in time.
  • Quickly view values through time using age slider bar.
  • Enter measured values, such as for maturity, porosity, temperature and pressure, at well locations. These data may be displayed on the cross section for calibration.
  • Draw a burial history plot for any point on the cross section.
  • Plot any model value versus time or depth for any cell in the cross section.
  • Display colored flow arrows for oil, gas and water.
  • Generate hardcopy using Windows® device drivers; export CGM in ZEH® Graphics format.
