PRA FLEXlm Stand Alone Installation
This page will guide you through generating a PRA license file on
a stand alone PC. Once you have successfully generated the license
file, you will be able to run PRA products from that PC.
Installing the Stand Alone Licensing Files
The
stand alone licensing utility files are included with the Petroleum
Systems Suite. To install them, run the Petroleum Systems Suite setup,
and choose "Stand Alone License Generation Utility" from the list of
components.
note: If you have not yet installed
the new PRA products from this setup, you may install the products and
the licensing simultaneously.
Note that these license
files are required for dongle license generation; and while they are
not essential for other stand alone installations, it is strongly
recommended that you install and use them. Even if you do not need a
new license file at this time (see below), you may need the utility
files later when your license file expires.
Note: You may not need a new license file for this release
If you have an existing PRA license file issued after January 1, 2002, you
may not need a new license file for this release. Before continuing
with the Stand Alone License File Generation, read License File Eligibility Dates to see if your existing license file is sufficient.
Stand Alone License File Generation
PRA stand alone licensing requires one of two things:
- The Disk Volume Serial Number from the PC that will be running the software, or
- The Dongle Serial Number of the dongle to be used to run the software.
note: If you are running Windows NT/2000 and are using a dongle,
the Rainbow Sentinel System Drivers must be installed in order for your system to recognize the dongle.
The Petroleum Systems Suite Stand Alone License Generation Utility
will take you through the license generation process for either of the
above scenarios. Alternatively, you may set up your license file
manually using a DOS or Command Prompt
Setup using the Stand Alone License Generation Utility
Run the Stand Alone License Generation Utility
The Stand Alone License Generation Utility shortcut is included in the Start | Programs | Platte River Associates, Inc. menu.
- Report the 'lmhostid' of your system to Platte River Associates, Inc.
The lmhostid is based on the Disk Volume Serial Number (DISK_SERIAL_NUM) of
the host machine, or the serial number of a Rainbow SuperPro dongle
(DONGLE_SERIAL_NUM) available from PRA.
note: If you are running Windows NT/2000 and are using a dongle, the Rainbow Sentinel System Drivers must be installed in order for your system to recognize the dongle.
The Stand Alone License Generation Utility will display the following dialog:
|
This dialog displays the Disk Volume Serial Number and the serial number of the Rainbow SuperPro dongle if you have one.
If you were using the Disk Volume Serial Number, your lmhostid would be 18279f0c in this example.
Contact PRA with the appropriate lmhostid (disk or dongle) via
email: keys@platte.com
or you may phone or fax us:
Phone: (303)-448-0480 USA

You may Exit from this utility until you have received your license file or password report file from PRA.

Setup using a DOS or Command Prompt
note: if you are using a password report file, you must setup licensing with the
Stand Alone License Generation Utility as listed above.
Find your lmhostid based on your Disk Volume Serial Number or Dongle Serial Number.
- Finding your Disk Volume Serial Number
Use a DIR command at a DOS prompt on the C:\ drive to determine the DISK_SERIAL_NUM. The Disk Volume Serial Number will appear at the top of the output, as marked in red in the example below.
C:\>dir
Volume in drive C has no label.
Volume Serial Number is 1827-9F0C

Setup of Rainbow Sentinel System Drivers
You will need to install the Rainbow Sentinel System Drivers if you are running
Windows NT, 2000, or XP and are using a Rainbow SuperPro dongle for licensing.
The Rainbow SuperPro driver setup is located on the CD-ROM or is available via FTP.
To install the Rainbow SuperPro driver, all you need to do is run
SentinelProtectionInstaller7.0.0.exe.
To run SentinelProtectionInstaller7.0.0.exe from
the CD, assuming E: is your
CD ROM drive, run:
E:\SentinelProtectionInstaller7.0.0.exe
You can do this by browsing to the CD ROM drive in Windows Explorer,
or by using the Windows Start | Run command and typing
E:\SentinelProtectionInstaller7.0.0.exe into the
dialog that appears.
During the setup procedure, select the "Custom" setup type.
Click the "Sentinel Protection Server" icon and select "This feature will not be available".
Press "Next" and follow the rest of the installation procedure.
Once this setup is finished, the Rainbow Sentinel System Driver for your
system will be installed, and you can continue with
licensing setup.
