Model secondary migration and hydrocarbon accumulation

Combines source rock and reservoir data to simulate hydrocarbon migration and entrapment potential at either the prospect, play, or basin level.

Hydrocarbons migrate and accumulate in 3-D space. However, the use of 3-D modelling programs is limited because they require more data than are generally available, and model construction can be extremely complex. Execution of 3-D models requires significant computing power, as well as computing time, often taking several hours or even days to calculate. BasinFlow offers a viable, straightforward, fast solution to migration questions. Fully integrated with BasinView®, BasinMod® 1-D, and BasinMod® 2-D, BasinFlow® allows comprehensive exploration target prediction.

Migration Dynamics:

Buoyancy drive caused by variations in structure and the density differences between hydrocarbons and formation water - predicts structural traps.
Capillary drive caused by variations in oil-water capillary pressure, which is a function of permeability - predicts stratigraphic and fault traps.
Water drive caused by groundwater flow - predicts hydrodynamic traps.

Output:

Display BasinFlow output as maps through geologic time in BasinView.
Draw maps of trap boundaries and trap area filled.
Draw maps of migration pathways.
Draw maps of fetch areas.
Display all calculated values in 3-D Model Viewer, which can also display faults, traps, and migration pathways.
Display vector maps of buoyancy, capillary, and hydrodynamic drive.
Generate hardcopy using Windows® device drivers; export CGM output in ZEH® Graphics format.
